When Videofashion was founded in 1976, lifestyle television hadn’t been invented yet.  Video was a new medium.  

Videofashion’s founder, Nicolas Charney — MIT graduate, former psychologist and creator of Psychology Today Magazine — saw the potential of video and fashion in a digital age that had just begun.  

With his success in the publishing world, Charney reflects “We looked at subjects from sports to music and decided on fashion because the clothes, the fabrics, the models created the most stunning visuals on screen.” He continued, “Videofashion became the world’s first videomagazine.”

Charney’s business partner and wife, Anne Adami, a former Wilhelmina model, has led the editorial and production teams over their six decades of creating programming which encompasses every aspect of the fashion industry. “We now have an unrivalled fashion archive and library which includes short and long-form programming, thousands of hours of raw footage and content which can be used as a resource to create new television documentaries, series and educational programming for years to come.” 

Mercedes Velgot, is our Director of Content at Videofashion, where she began her career in 1984 as Senior Producer, overseeing fashion programming for over a decade and covering the industry in New York, Paris, Milan and London.

She later served as Executive Producer of Born to Explore with Richard Wiese, the Emmy® Award-winning ABC and PBS travel series, which received two National Daytime Emmys® and 14 nominations, including three individual nominations for Mercedes for directing and writing. She was also Senior Producer of the award-winning PBS series Weekends with Yankee.

Mercedes brings decades of experience in television production, fashion and media to her role at Videofashion, focusing on content and licensing for its extensive fashion archive.

Video changed the industry forever. And Videofashion was there first.
